Summary:
Secrets. Lies. Betrayal.

How much heartbreak can one heart take?

Melisa Dane has made it through the worst. Her heart was broken, but Florian Dane, better known as “Heat”—and the man of her dreams—returned to mend it. Now, with her family almost complete, Melisa is ready to sit back and enjoy life.

But fate isn't done with her yet. The perpetual smile on her face freezes when the second man to steal her heart shows up in her life once again. Scott Bergfeld, the husband she buried and grieved for years ago, is not dead, and he comes back bearing secrets.

Heartbroken and confused, Melisa tries to find answers to questions she never thought she'd ask, but what she learns throws her life into turmoil. Soon, cracks start to form in her marriage with Heat. As her heart is torn into two halves—between the man she loved first and the man she married first—she comes dangerously close to having her whole life destroyed again. How many people will end up getting hurt? This time, does she have the strength to make it through?

My review:

“Life goes on. People don’t always stay in your life forever, no matter how much you need them.”

I really admire Dori Lavelle’s writing style. I like the fact that the story wasn’t happening too fast because it gave me time to cherish every chapter, every moment and every word. I honestly could’ve read this book in less than two days but I took my time because I didn’t want it to end right away. Now that I finished the book, I am so happy with how things ended.

“The best way to keep him close was to keep him at a distance…”

Ben was just the way I expected him to be. It’s hard to see your biological parents after finding out that your real mom had sent you away when you were born. I like how the author didn’t rush his situation. It wouldn’t be realistic if he just accepts everything in just a few months.

“Scott never failed to make her feel like the only girl in the world.”

Scott. I didn’t know what to expect from him. At first, I was really confused like Melisa. I didn’t know if I should be happy that he was alive or mad because he lied. When I read the flashbacks, that’s when I fell in love with Scott. He was romantic and sweet.  I didn’t really care if he lied anymore, I was just happy he was there and I was hoping Melisa would give him a chance to explain. Then the bad news happened and I just… I stopped reading for a moment and tried to register the revelation. If I had to change one thing, it's that.

“…but the truth was, when someone hurts you, you don’t just stop loving or caring about them. You might lash out at them, walk away or even cut them out of your life, but the love remains with you for days, months, even years before it fades or transforms into something else.”

Melisa and Heat’s love story is so inspirational. They found a way to be together and be happy even after all of the things they have been through. They went through a lot to be together and to be happy. Even if Melisa is different from my personality and is way older than me, it was really easy for me to put myself in her position. It never ceased to amaze me how words can make people experience a fictional character’s life.

Moments in time and Defining moments gave me hope. These days, a lot of couples break up because they can’t stand arguing or fighting against each other. They don’t try to fix their problem…well sometimes they do but they end up giving up. The only solution they find is separation or divorce. Melisa and Heat went through difficult times but they love each other and when a person truly loves someone, they don’t give up on them, they fight for them. They don’t give up especially if they know the person is still in love with them. Relationships aren’t perfect and there will be many obstacles along the way but to make them last forever, you have to make sacrifices. Melisa and Heat are just fictional characters but I felt like they were real people and they affected me in a good way. I learned so much about life, relationships, friendships and even depression. I praise and I thank Dori Lavelle for writing astounding love stories that can change someone’s point of view on life.
I really recommend this book!!!

About the author
Dori Lavelle, is a mother, wife, and a sucker for happy ever afters and mint chocolate. Give her a great romance novel and a mug of hot chocolate and she'd be one happy woman.
Growing up, Dori read a lot, and when she wasn't happy with a particular ending, she wrote a different one, just for herself. Before long, she was writing stories when she should have been doing homework. The time has come for her to share the stories she cooks up in her head.
